Village Clerk Sue Lowrance is a life-long Bethalto resident and can think of no better place to call home.  Sue graduated in 1986 from Civic Memorial High School and went on to receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

Sue, who was appointed to the clerk’s office in April 2008, is now serving her fifth full term as Clerk. She came to the Village after a 17-year career in retail as the office manager for Ace Hardware of Bethalto.

She is active in the community and is an avid supporter of the Bethalto Boys & Girls Club, CMHS and Trimpe athletics. Professionally, she is a member of the Southwestern Illinois Municipal Clerks Association, the Municipal Clerks of Illinois, and the International Institute of Municipal Clerks.  Sue holds her Registered Municipal Clerk (RMC) certification through the State of Illinois and is working toward her Certified Municipal Clerk (CMC) certification through IIMC.

Sue and her husband Jay are the parents of Jonathan (Sara) and Jaylyn (Brandon), and grandparents to Brody, Bryson, and Lainey.  Sue is proud to have the opportunity to continue to serve the residents of Bethalto; her office door is always open and she looks forward to helping residents in any way she can!

DUTIES

The village clerk is the elected keeper of records for the village. The clerk acts as secretary for the Board of Trustees, keeping records of its meetings, posting official notices, and attesting to all contracts, resolutions, ordinances, and other official documents of the Board. The clerk maintains the minutes of all other boards and committees of the village and ensures that the Code of Ordinances is current. The clerk also serves as the Freedom of Information Officer for the Village.  The clerk is available during normal business hours to assist citizens with obtaining permits, licenses, voter registration, and all other duties of the office.
